I worked up this hat quickly once I got it figured out. I used an H crochet hook and worsted weight yarn. I worked it in the round, joining every row at the end. This pattern will make a hat for a 6-9 month baby, but you can easily add or subtract increases to make it larger or smaller.
Round 1- Make magic ring, dc 8 in ring (8 sts). Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 2- 2 dc in each st around, join last st to first with sl st. (16 st)
Round 3- *1 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (24 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 4- *2 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (32 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 5- *3 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (40 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 6- *4 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (48 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 7- *5 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (56 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 8- *6 dc in first st, 2 dc in next *repeat (64 st) Join last st to first with sl st.
Round 9... dc around until you reach desired length. 5 inches or more is a good length. The hat should start to take on a round shape after a few rounds. Join last st to first with sl st.
Next, chain 3. This counts as first st. bpdc, fpdc around, join last st to first with sl st.
Final round- chain 3 (counts as first dc), 7 dc in same st, *skip next st, sc crochet in next st, skip next st, 8 dc in next st* repeat around. You should end up with 16 shells. Join last st to first st with sl st, finish off.
Rose:
Round 1: Make a magic ring, 8 sc in ring (8 st)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, chain 3, skip next st, *sc in next st, ch 3, skip next st* around.
Round 3: Sl st, ch2, 4 dc, ch 2, sl st in each ch 3 space of round 2. (4 petals)
Round 4: Work behind petals. Ch 2, sc, ch 4 in each skipped st from round 1.
Round 5: sl st, ch 2, 8 dc, ch 2 sl st in each ch 4 space of round 4, join to first sl st and finish off.
With a yarn needle, stitch rose to hat. I used the yarn from the beginning and end of the flower to sew it on.
Hey! Found you through ravelry. What a cute hat. I think I will start one soon. Would you post a picture of the hat on a baby so we can see how it sits?
